Government cuts excise duties and premiums to mitigate fuel price hike, while Prime Minister Andrej Plenković announces progress in Banovina reconstruction.
As of today, July 28, 2026, drivers in Croatia face new, higher fuel prices. The government made the decision during a telephone session on Monday, and according to reports from City Portal VG and Cronika.hr, the price increase has hit diesel fuel the hardest.
Petrol has increased by €0.08 per liter and now stands at €1.62/l. Diesel fuel has risen by €0.16 to €1.75/l. Blue diesel went up by €0.19 to €1.21/l. LPG for large tanks is €0.05 per kilogram more expensive at €1.28/kg, while LPG for bottles is also €0.05 higher at €1.86/kg. The new prices will be in effect for the next 14 days.
To mitigate the increase driven by global market trends, the government lowered excise duties and premiums. The excise duty on diesel was reduced by €0.04 per liter, and on petrol by €0.01 per liter. Premiums for petrol and diesel dropped by €0.01 per liter, for blue diesel by €0.035 per liter, and for LPG by €0.02 per kilogram. Without these measures, petrol would cost €1.77/l, diesel €1.94/l, blue diesel €1.28/l, LPG in tanks €1.39/kg, and LPG in bottles as much as €2.10/kg, reports City Portal VG.
On the same day the fuel decision was made, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković announced via Twitter the completion of construction of eight new residential buildings with 152 apartments in Petrinja. This investment worth €22.7 million is part of the large reconstruction and revitalization project for Sisak-Moslavina County. The project will include a total of 59 buildings with 1,024 apartments, 57 of which have already been built.
"A big day for the residents of Petrinja! Construction of eight new residential buildings with 152 apartments has been completed," Plenković wrote.
In Sisak, keys were handed over for 57 apartments in three new buildings on the same day, bringing the total number of completed buildings in the county to 57. The value of this project amounts to nearly €30 million.
"Over the past six years, we have made great efforts to speed up the reconstruction process. So far, we have invested a total of €5 billion-€3 billion for Zagreb and €2 billion in Banovina and other affected areas," Plenković stated.
