The SDSS president sharply criticized the State Attorney's Office for failing to react to hate speech during the Victory Day celebrations, but DORH responds that no criminal complaints have been filed.
The State Attorney's Office of the Republic of Croatia (DORH) has declined to comment on the accusations made by SDSS president and MP Milorad Pupovac, stating that it does not comment on politicians' statements. The response came after Hina's inquiry following Pupovac's press conference on Friday, August 7, 2026, where he sharply criticized the institution for its lack of reaction to events in Knin during the Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day celebrations.
DORH further clarified that the competent state attorney's office has not received any criminal complaints related to the incidents in Knin on August 5, 2026. "According to the currently available data held by the competent state attorney's office, we can state that no criminal complaints have been filed regarding the event you mention," DORH responded to Hina's inquiry, emphasizing that it would not comment on politicians' statements concerning the said event.
At an extraordinary press conference, Milorad Pupovac questioned why DORH does not act ex officio, asserting that hate speech and incitement to violence could be heard on Knin's streets and in hospitality venues. According to him, the messages being spread represent "a serious attack on constitutional values and democracy."
As evidence, Pupovac showed a compilation of recordings in which, as he claims, Ustasha songs and chants directed against Serbs can be heard. Among the materials shown was a recording of Marko Skeja, former commander of the 9th HOS Battalion "Rafael Boban," singing the song "Jure i Boban" in a restaurant. Pupovac stated that hatred and calls for crime are incompatible with patriotism.
Although Pupovac insisted on ex officio action, DORH's response implicitly indicated that without a filed criminal complaint or other formal grounds, it would not initiate an investigation. This further emphasized the institutional distance from political qualifications of the events, leaving any potential complaints to citizens or authorized institutions.
