Woman from Rijeka Paid Fake Brokers 103,000 Euros Over Four Years

A 63-year-old Croatian citizen came to the First Police Station in Rijeka and reported an online scam in which she lost 103,000 euros, as reported by Burin Rijeka.
The police state that since 2022, the woman had been repeatedly deceived by false promises from unknown individuals who posed online as agents of a foreign brokerage firm.
The fake agents promised her significant profits from financial investments and, over a period of several years, induced her to pay them a total of approximately 103,000 euros. Only after realizing she couldn't access her deposited money, let alone the promised earnings, did she report the case to the police.
Police officers are currently conducting a criminal investigation to establish all details and locate the perpetrators of this criminal offense.
The police have once again urged citizens to exercise caution when trading and investing on websites. They warn citizens not to fall for offers that promise quick, safe, and substantial profits in a short period.
Before making any payments, citizens should verify whether the brokerage firm or platform is licensed and authorized to provide financial services. They are also warned never to share personal and banking information, nor to grant remote access to their computer or mobile device to unknown individuals.
