The World Health Organization (WHO) humanitarian warehouse in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro was destroyed in a Russian attack on Friday, August 7, 2026. The news was confirmed on Sunday by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, emphasizing that the staff's quick response prevented an even greater catastrophe.
According to Ghebreyesus, a WHO staff member and drivers were at the location earlier that day to evacuate cargo. "The team managed to evacuate 130 of approximately 300 pallets and leave the area before the attack began," Ghebreyesus wrote on social media platform X. At the time of the announcement, there were no reports of casualties.
The destroyed warehouse contained humanitarian medical supplies intended for hospitals on the frontline. These were primarily WHO emergency medical supplies, which were to be distributed to affected areas. The attack on health infrastructure has once again drawn sharp condemnation from the international community.
"Last Friday, the WHO humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, was hit and destroyed. There are currently no reports of casualties. On this occasion, Ghebreyesus reiterated his appeal for an end to attacks on health facilities, a practice that has been repeatedly seen in the war in Ukraine. The destruction of the warehouse with medical supplies further complicates the already critical humanitarian situation in conflict-affected areas.
