Iran Warns It Has 'Comprehensive Response Plan' as US Allies Hesitate on Direct Military Aid
The United States and Israel are planning one of the most intense bombing campaigns yet targeting Iran's energy infrastructure, with strikes potentially taking place over the weekend, CBS News reported, citing unnamed sources. According to the same sources, targets would include power plants and refineries, but President Donald Trump has not yet given final approval.
Anadolu Agency reports that Washington is considering military action against Iranian energy facilities as early as this weekend, while Trump is for now withholding final approval. Meanwhile, Trump told reporters on Friday that the US would strike Iran 'forcefully,' although there are reports the strikes could be called off.
A senior Iranian security official warned via the Tasnim agency that Tehran has prepared a 'comprehensive response plan' in case of any American or Israeli attack on Iranian infrastructure. He described the planned strikes as 'madness' and stressed that Iran's response would target vital Israeli infrastructure and US energy facilities in the region.
The official added that Iran's armed forces have proven their capability and readiness to respond during the forty-day war and subsequent events. Al Jazeera quotes another Iranian official saying plans are ready to respond to any 'crazy' American attack.
Politico writes that US allies around the world have shown no willingness to provide direct military assistance to the US in a conflict with Iran. European and Asian diplomats have reportedly said their countries are not prepared to risk the safety of their own citizens until Washington and Tehran reach a ceasefire agreement.
A European diplomat told Politico that his country would support the US more actively if Washington agreed to strengthen its military presence in the Baltic states. A Ukrainian official, meanwhile, stressed Kyiv's readiness to provide allies in the Middle East with drone-countermeasure technology, especially if Ukraine receives weapons in return.
The US and Israel started a war with Iran on February 28, 2026. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that provided for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, on July 8, the US resumed massive strikes on Iran, accusing it of violating the agreement on the Strait of Hormuz.
