Sevastopol, a port city on the annexed Crimean peninsula, has once again been left without electricity after Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack, Russian authorities reported early Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-installed governor of Sevastopol, described the attack as "massive," according to Russia's state news agency TASS. He said Russian forces are repelling the attack, while experts assess the extent of the damage.
Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for nearly four and a half years. According to German news agency dpa, Kyiv has responded to the invasion with drone strikes on key targets deep inside Russia, including military installations and oil and gas infrastructure.
The purpose of these actions is to weaken the fuel supply for Russian forces and reduce the resources Moscow uses to support its war efforts. Sevastopol is a key port for Russia's Black Sea Fleet.
