Despite numerous calls to authorities, the animal carcass near Vransko Lake remains unremoved, and the calf has been left in the care of a local farmer.
In the area of Vransko Lake, in close proximity to agricultural crops, a dead cow has been lying for seven days, its body rapidly decomposing in temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius. While the unpleasant odor can be detected from about fifty meters away, a calf has remained by the carcass, refusing to leave its mother, exposed to unbearable heat, hunger, and thirst.
The body of the dead animal lies in tall grass, not far from chard and other crops grown for the market. Residents of the area are increasingly concerned about the potential health and sanitary risks this scene poses, especially since food is being cultivated just a short distance from where the carcass is rotting.
The person on whose land the cow is located, according to available information, has contacted the inspection service, police, municipal police, and the emergency number 112. Despite all these calls, there has been no intervention or concrete response from the responsible institutions for days.
Farmer Dragan Vukoja recounted that the dead cow and the calf had previously caused damage to his crops, but he could not leave the animal without help. The calf is brought water daily, as it is believed that without it, it would die due to the extreme heat affecting the Biograd area.
Vukoja called the emergency number 112 again in front of the news crew. He was informed that the municipal services of Biograd na Moru would be notified. Shortly after, a call came from a person identifying themselves as a municipal worker, but the problem was not resolved then either, and the dead cow remains in the field.
The alleged owner of the animals refused to give a statement or allow filming, leaving it unclear who is responsible for the cow and calf and why their care was not initiated earlier. The sight of the calf circling its dead mother for days has sparked anger and sorrow among the local population.
People are now demanding that authorities determine the owner, take all necessary steps, and stop the animal's further suffering. The dead cow must be properly disposed of, and the calf must receive water, food, shelter, and veterinary care. If the authorities do not act quickly, residents warn that the situation could lead to another animal's death.
