The Split Maritime Police Station has intensified surveillance during the peak tourist season, with the highest number of sanctioned violations related to improper planing within 300 meters of the shore.
Police officers from the Split Maritime Police Station have intensified their surveillance at sea with the aim of increasing the safety of all participants in maritime traffic. In the period from August 3 to 10, 2026, they sanctioned a total of 85 different maritime violations, confirmed the Split-Dalmatia Police Administration.
The largest number of fines, 25 in total, were issued to drivers who were planing at a distance of less than the prescribed 300 meters from the shore. Such irresponsible driving directly endangers the safety of swimmers and other people in the sea. A fine of 400 euros is prescribed for this violation.
The police remind that planing with motorboats and jet-propelled vessels, such as scooters and jet skis, is allowed only at a distance greater than 300 meters from the shore and only in areas where such navigation is not explicitly prohibited. They emphasize that respecting this distance is one of the key measures for preventing maritime accidents.
In addition to dangerous planing, the maritime police also recorded other violations. There were seven cases of anchoring in areas where it is prohibited, and six violations for overloading vessels. Furthermore, as many as 12 individuals were sanctioned for operating a vessel without the necessary license or for allowing an unauthorized person to operate it. Additionally, violations related to not possessing mandatory vessel documentation were also penalized.
The Split-Dalmatia Police Administration states that such intensified surveillance will continue in the coming period. They appeal to all boaters and participants in maritime traffic to consistently comply with legal regulations and safety rules in order to minimize the number of accidents and other unwanted events at sea.
