The Istrian Police Department has completed a criminal investigation into two foreign nationals suspected of exploiting children for pornography. Both cases were discovered in tourist facilities.
The Istrian Police Department announced on Saturday that it had completed criminal investigations into two men, a 58-year-old Swiss citizen and a 30-year-old Russian citizen. They are charged with the criminal offense of exploiting children for pornography, and the incidents occurred one day apart at two different tourist facilities in the Istria region.
The first case was reported on August 6, 2026, at around 9:10 PM. Guests at a tourist facility caught the 58-year-old Swiss national secretly filming naked children with his mobile phone. The man attempted to flee but fell during his escape and sustained minor injuries.
Police arrested him at the scene. During the criminal investigation, material suspected to be related to the offense was found on him. The following day, on August 7 in the evening, the 58-year-old was handed over to the custody supervisor along with a criminal complaint, i.e., he was taken to the detention unit of the Istrian Police Department.
On the same day, August 7, at around 6:00 PM, another incident occurred at a different tourist facility in Istria. A security company employee noticed a 30-year-old Russian national at the pool who is suspected of filming naked children with his mobile phone. The guard detained him until police arrived.
In this case as well, incriminating material linked to the offense was found during the criminal investigation. The suspect, aged 30, was handed over to the custody supervisor on August 8 in the evening, also with a criminal complaint, and was taken to the detention unit.
On this occasion, the Istrian Police Department issued an appeal to citizens to immediately report any suspicious behavior directed at children. They emphasized that these cases demonstrate the growing public awareness of the issue of filming children and that citizens recognize suspicious behavior and react in a timely manner. They urged parents to pay extra attention to where their children are and what they are doing, especially on beaches and at pools during the tourist season. If they notice someone suspiciously filming, the police urge them to report it immediately by calling 192.
