In the early hours of Sunday, August 16, 2026, Ukraine carried out one of its largest drone attacks on Russia since the start of the war, destroying key warehouses of Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer. The Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defenses shot down 822 drones overnight, with approximately 600 of them targeting Moscow.
Logistics center in flames
The hardest hit was the logistics center in the Koledino industrial park in the Moscow region. It is Wildberries' largest warehouse in all of Russia, covering 250,000 square meters and employing 13,000 people. According to estimates cited by Anadolu English, the damage to this facility exceeds $1.5 billion (around €1.4 billion).
The Telegram channel Astra reported that Wildberries' warehouse in Podolsk, also in the Moscow region, was also attacked on Sunday. This brings the total number of warehouses of the e-commerce giant hit since mid-July to 20.
Economic target, not just military
Ukrainian attacks on Russian logistics infrastructure have been ongoing since mid-July 2026, when Kyiv began targeting Wildberries' warehouses almost daily. The official Ukrainian defense Twitter account stated that 7 of Wildberries' 10 largest logistics hubs are out of operation.
As of August 7, 2026, excluding the Podolsk warehouse, 20 facilities with over 1.18 million square meters of storage space were out of operation, representing more than a fifth of the company's total capacity. Wildberries has around 98,000 pickup points across Russia.
Blow to the Russian economy
Wildberries and Ozon, another major Russian e-commerce platform, together sell goods and services worth 8.5 percent of Russia's GDP. These two companies employ 4 million people, or more than 5 percent of Russia's total workforce.
Inventory losses and delivery disruptions have raised concerns about potential seller bankruptcies, rising inflation, and the need for state aid. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continued to strike Russian military and energy targets in occupied Crimea, while Russia retaliated with attacks on Kyiv.
