Serbian UFC fighter Uroš Medić, after defeating Daniel Rodriguez in Belgrade, revealed he has at least three fights left on his contract and wants to establish himself as a violent fighter who puts on spectacles.
Uroš Medić, a Serbian UFC fighter, defeated Daniel Rodriguez by knockout in just 30 seconds at the UFC event in Belgrade. The fight was the main event of the evening, and for Medić it was an emotional career highlight as he performed in front of a home crowd at the first UFC event in Belgrade.
In an interview with Josh Thomson on the "Weighing In" show, Medić stated that he believes he has "at least three more fights" left on his current UFC contract. He explained that he signed a five-fight deal before the Geoff Neal fight and has completed two fights under that contract. However, he emphasized that he doesn't know the exact details of the contract but estimates he has at least three fights remaining.
Medić made it clear what kind of career he wants to build in the UFC. "Justin Gaethje is the model I want to follow," Medić said during the interview. He wants to be recognized as a violent fighter who creates the expectation of a 'car crash' for his opponents, not as a fighter who builds a career with a cautious approach.
He was particularly inspired by the sight of Gaethje standing with the American flag in front of the Declaration of Independence after winning the title. Medić said he wanted to feel a similar national pride as a non-American athlete fighting in Serbia. Entering to the song "Vidovdan" and the crowd's reaction made the Belgrade event much more than just a fight night.
During the interview, Thomson listed four of Medić's quick finishes: Gilbert Urbina fell in 1:30, Muslim Salikhov in 1:03, Geoff Neal in 1:19, and Daniel Rodriguez in just 30 seconds. Medić pointed out that both of the last two knockouts came after signing the five-fight contract.
Medić also mentioned Rodriguez's criticism, who described him as a fighter who only finishes fights in the first round. As a counterargument, he cited victories over Omar Morales and Matt Semelsberger, which he achieved in later rounds, but noted that those opponents are no longer in the UFC.
Medić has not yet confirmed the name of his next opponent, nor has he announced a return date to the octagon. What is clear is his intention to use the remaining fights on his contract to continue a streak of spectacular finishes and move closer to title fights, which he himself described as the ultimate dream of every fighter.
