Forest fires, motorcycle rescue from a ravine, and a series of technical interventions marked day and night in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
The day and night behind the firefighting forces of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County were filled with numerous challenges on the ground. According to the report from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Firefighting Association, as carried by Burin Rijeka, 21 interventions were recorded in the past 24 hours, involving 16 firefighting units.
The toughest battles were fought against two major forest fires, in the areas of Lič and Krasica. The fire in Lič was still not extinguished early this morning, with 18 firefighters deployed with five vehicles on the scene. Alongside members of the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Rijeka, volunteers from the voluntary fire departments of Lič, Fužine, and Vrata also took part. To locate the hotspot as quickly as possible, the City of Rijeka Public Fire Brigade dispatched a drone team that helped precisely determine the fire's location, as reported by Burin Rijeka.
A few hours earlier, members of the City of Rijeka Public Fire Brigade and the voluntary fire departments of Čavle, Škrljevo, and Hreljin operated in the open area of Krasica. Kanal Ri also reports that the Rijeka Public Fire Brigade, along with the voluntary fire departments of Čavle, Škrljevo, and Hreljin, were engaged in Krasica. According to additional information, the fire in Krasica was of larger proportions, and the combined forces made maximum efforts to bring the blaze under control and prevent its spread toward populated areas. The fire at that location was contained thanks to timely detection and an organized attack.
Among the most complex operations was the one between Mošćenička Draga and Brseč, where a motorcyclist had to be extracted from a ravine. Firefighters from the Opatija Public Fire Brigade and the Sisol Voluntary Fire Department took part in this intervention. Using specialized equipment for rescue operations on inaccessible terrain, the firefighters managed to reach the injured rider, stabilize him, and pull him out of the ravine, after which he was handed over to the emergency medical team for further care.
During the 24-hour period, firefighters also extinguished open-area and grass fires in Delnice, Viškovo, and Rijeka, as well as a car fire in Rijeka and fires involving containers and poles in Šilo and Nerezine. They also conducted reconnaissance after reports of smoke and flames in Soboli, Vrbnik, and Šilo, and responded to an activated fire alarm in Opatija.
A series of technical interventions were also recorded: removal of broken roof tiles in Brod na Kupi, door openings in Malinska (according to Burin) or Malinska-Dubašnica (according to Kanal Ri), an intervention due to smoke from cables in Veli Lošinj, and pumping water out of an apartment in Rijeka. Firefighters also provided security for medical flights in Rijeka and on Cres.
All activities involved members of the public fire brigades of Delnice, Rijeka, Opatija, Krk, and Mali Lošinj, as well as voluntary fire departments Sisol, Halubjan Viškovo, Čavle, Škrljevo, Hreljin, Cres, Vrbnik, Dobrinj, Fužine, Vrata, and Lič.
