The family of Denis Vejzović, a Croatian citizen hospitalized in Ireland, receives institutional support, from consular assistance to coordination of possible continued treatment at home.
The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Dublin and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs confirmed on Tuesday that they have been monitoring the case of Denis Vejzović, a Croatian citizen undergoing hospital treatment in Ireland, since day one, and that they remain continuously engaged in providing assistance to him and his family.
Members of the diplomatic mission, led by the ambassador, are in constant contact with Mr. Vejzović's family and simultaneously maintain regular communication with the medical team at Cork University Hospital, where the patient is being treated. "Embassy staff, including the ambassador personally, are in regular contact with Mr. Vejzović's family members, as well as with representatives of Cork University Hospital," reads the response from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs to Novi list.
The family's wish for treatment to continue in the Republic of Croatia, should the patient's health condition and medical circumstances allow, has been conveyed to the relevant Irish authorities on several occasions. In doing so, diplomatic representatives have expressed readiness to mediate in connecting the appropriate institutions of the two countries.
However, activities are not limited to the diplomatic level alone. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has initiated contacts with domestic healthcare institutions to explore all options for continued care in Croatia, and cooperation has been established with the Zagreb University Hospital Centre (KBC Zagreb). The Ministry of Health has appointed a professional contact person responsible for medical consultations, whose role is to provide insight into the patient's current condition and clarify procedures and options for potentially transferring treatment back home.
Regarding the transport itself, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs emphasizes that the organization and coverage of medical transport costs depend on several factors: the patient's health condition, the conditions under which transport can be carried out, his health insurance status, and compliance with other legal prerequisites.
The Ministry stresses that it is treating this case with heightened attention and, within its remit, is taking all available measures to ensure the family receives the necessary support and to guarantee quality communication between the health systems and competent authorities of Croatia and Ireland. "The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Dublin will continue to be at the family's disposal for consular assistance and coordination with the Irish side," the Ministry's response concludes.
