Residents of Velika Gorica have had a brand new, nearly 900-meter-long pedestrian and cycling path along Lake Čiče since Tuesday. The asphalt route connects the beginning of Sisačka Street, near the shopping center, with the popular excursion spot locals affectionately call "Čič-beach" or "Turopolje Sea."

Along the path, 33 lighting poles have been installed, making the area safer and more accessible for use in the evening hours. The City has announced that benches for resting and waste bins will be installed soon, further enhancing this increasingly popular recreational area.

Mayor: "To the Sea on Two Wheels Too"

Mayor Krešimir Ačkar did not hide his satisfaction with the completion of the works. "From now on, we can get to our 'Turopolje Sea' on two wheels too! The new path along Lake Čiče is another step in the development of our city's cycling infrastructure," Ačkar stated in a City press release.

He also emphasized his delight that fellow citizens are being provided with a safer and more pleasant way to reach one of their favorite spots for rest and recreation. "We continue to invest in such projects to better connect Velika Gorica and surrounding settlements and offer citizens more options for daily movement and an active lifestyle," he added, as reported by City Portal VG.

Toward a Connected Route Around the Gorica Lakes

The new path is part of the City's broader vision to connect Velika Gorica with surrounding settlements and lakes. The existing landscaped route toward Stari Čič, along the former radar site, has shown how much citizens appreciate such routes. By further connecting them, the possibility of creating a unique recreational route that would encompass all the Gorica lakes and nearby settlements is gradually emerging.

Today, more than 60 kilometers of cycling paths have been built in the Velika Gorica area. Through their continuous expansion and connection, not only are conditions created for safer movement of cyclists and pedestrians, but citizens are also encouraged to use bicycles more for daily errands, not just in their free time.
