The Krapina-Zagorje Police Department has filed a criminal complaint against a 22-year-old man accused of a series of incredibly dangerous driving incidents in the areas of Marija Bistrica, Zlatar, Zabok, and Krapina. According to the findings of the criminal investigation, from early January to mid-July 2026, the young man repeatedly drove recklessly, putting himself and all other road users in mortal danger.
Police suspect it all began on a motorcycle. Despite not having a valid A-category driver's license, the 22-year-old allegedly rode an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle, reaching speeds of up to 260 kilometers per hour.
But that was just a warm-up. The criminal investigation established that the suspect, behind the wheel of a passenger car, repeatedly drove at speeds between 250 and 280 kilometers per hour. He drove in the oncoming traffic lane, overtook convoys across solid lines, and used his lights to force other drivers to move out of his way. He also filmed most of these dangerous stunts on his phone.
One of the most dangerous incidents occurred in the town of Marija Bistrica on state road DC 29. On a stretch where the speed limit is 50 kilometers per hour, the suspect allegedly drove between 180 and 240 kilometers per hour. Driving in the oncoming lane, he narrowly avoided a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle at the very last moment.
As if the previous stunts weren't frightening enough, in Zlatar, also on DC 29 where the limit is 50 km/h, he drove at over 200 kilometers per hour. On that occasion, he moved the driver's seat back and steered the car with his feet while holding his phone in his hands to film himself.
Police also suspect him of deliberately causing the rear of the car to slide, or "drifting," around roundabouts in Zabok and Krapina. All these actions, as stated in the police report, severely endangered the safety of all road users.
During the criminal investigation, police temporarily seized the 22-year-old's passenger car, along with its registration document and key. He now faces a criminal complaint filed with the competent Municipal State Attorney's Office for the criminal offense of reckless driving in road traffic under Article 226 of the Criminal Code.
