After a hot Wednesday with temperatures up to 33 degrees, Thursday brings gradual cloud cover, and Friday a more pronounced change with rain and thunderstorms in most regions.

The World Meteorological Organization confirms the record, with impacts increasingly visible in Croatia, from agriculture to tourism.

The start of the week brings instability across Croatia, with an orange warning issued for the Rijeka region. Temperatures could drop significantly.

After a prolonged drought and high temperatures, a cold front on Monday will bring rain, thunderstorms, hail, and cooler weather. Locally, heavier downpours with severe storms are possible, and waterspouts may occur at sea.

The heatwave continues, but a noticeable cooldown with rain and showers is expected across the country as early as Monday.

After a few more hot days, a more pronounced weather change is expected at the start of next week, with a drop in temperature and possible heavy rain, first in the northern Adriatic.

DHMZ and FHMZ BiH have issued forecasts for Thursday and the coming days. The Adriatic will see bura winds that will weaken in the afternoon, while BiH expects sunny weather with temperatures up to 38°C.

The record still belongs to Ploče with 42.8°C from 1981. An analysis of DHMZ's table reveals that 53 of 60 temperatures of 40 degrees or more were recorded in this century, strongly indicating a warming trend.

Most of Croatia will see stable and mostly sunny weather today, with slightly more bearable temperatures. The Adriatic remains hot, with the bura wind bringing storm-force gusts in places.

Meteorologist Dorian Ribarić explains that the extreme temperatures are due to the föhn wind descending from the Dinaric Alps.

The August record was broken around 1 PM with 39.2°C, but the temperature didn't stop there. Just an hour later, the mercury climbed to 39.7°C, surpassing even the absolute maximum set just a month and a half ago.

DHMZ forecasts a gradual easing of the heatwave. Warnings will diminish in the coming days, but on the Adriatic, especially in the Rijeka region, the danger from high temperatures will persist until Sunday.

As Croatia continues to grapple with a heatwave, meteorologists announce a significant cool-down by the end of next week. Alongside the heat, storm-force bura wind warnings are in effect.
