The death toll from the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, has risen to 6,125, announced Jorge Rodriguez, president of the National Assembly, on August 4. According to data he shared on Telegram, as reported by Reuters, nearly 61,000 people have received hospital treatment for injuries from the two powerful tremors.
The two earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, struck the country just one minute apart, causing widespread destruction across Venezuela. In addition to the human toll, there has been immense material damage to buildings and critical infrastructure.
According to a graphic released by Rodriguez, only 16.5 percent of the debris generated by the earthquakes has been cleared so far. This figure highlights the scale of the destruction and the slow pace of recovery since the June quakes.
Information on the number of casualties comes from official Venezuelan sources. While the parliament president cites a precise figure of 6,125 dead, other sources speak of more than 6,000 victims, confirming the magnitude of the tragedy.
