Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) is set to undergo a comprehensive renewal of its tram infrastructure, with the procurement procedure for a two-year contract worth €3.1 million being conducted by the City of Zagreb. The works cover a wide range of interventions, from replacing reinforced concrete slabs and repairing tracks to asphalt paving and installing rail lubrication systems.
Works Also at Night, on Weekends, and Holidays
The contractor will carry out the works successively, according to ZET's actual needs, on various sections of the tram network in Zagreb. The documentation allows for works to be performed during the day and night, including weekends and holidays, and work can be carried out at up to three locations simultaneously.
Replacement of Thousands of Slabs and Elements
The bill of quantities provides for the dismantling of 2,800 reinforced concrete cover slabs and the installation of 3,300 new ones. Additionally, 2,500 concrete elements will be removed, and 2,000 new ones installed. On a given section up to 50 meters long, the installation of at least six slabs or elements is planned, along with the repair, stabilization, or complete replacement of existing parts.
The interventions also include replacing elements adjacent to the rails, their fastening and leveling, after which the track is re-covered with reinforced concrete slabs, asphalt concrete, or gravel ballast.
Over 2,000 Square Meters of New Asphalt
As part of the renewal, 2,200 square meters of the existing sub-base layer will be removed. The plan includes laying 2,000 square meters of asphalt on road surfaces and an additional 100 square meters in pedestrian zones. On sections of track closed with concrete and asphalt, 500 cubic meters of concrete-asphalt fill will be demolished and new fill laid, while 200 cubic meters of material is planned for the gravel base and track fill.
The procurement also includes four stationary rail lubrication devices, along with supply, installation, commissioning, and functional testing.
Although the bill of quantities contains numerous items expressed in linear meters, it is not possible to determine a single total length of tram track to be renewed. The City of Zagreb notes that the quantities in the bill of quantities are indicative and that the actual quantities procured, as well as the total costs, may be higher or lower than estimated.
