The Kvarner Tourist Board has launched Nona Chef, a fresh video series dedicated to preserving the region's rich culinary tradition. At the heart of the project are recipes passed down through generations, crafted from ingredients that the sea, islands, highlands, and home gardens have provided for decades. The ultimate goal is to ensure this culinary heritage becomes part of everyday life for future generations.
The series takes viewers on a journey with authentic Kvarner nonas, revealing their family recipes and stories that have been kept within four walls for generations. Beyond the cooking instructions, each episode is imbued with the scents of home cooking, with a special emphasis on local dialects. Through authentic expressions, memories, and life stories, each video gains a unique and recognizable character.
"We hope that our nonas, and a few nonos, will be the most beautiful invitation for many to visit Kvarner and get to know it through its flavors," said Marijana Kalčić, Director of the Kvarner Tourist Board.
As Director Kalčić pointed out, the Year of the European Region of Gastronomy emerged as the perfect moment to tell the story that most faithfully portrays Kvarner. The series evokes the customs and rhythm of life in the region, where a hand-written recipe from a grandmother carries the same weight as a photograph from a family album. Each new episode brings a fresh recipe, a new narrative, and another face of Kvarner.
Initial teasers on social media have already sparked positive reactions, confirming that audiences recognize the value of authentic content. The first video and series announcement can be viewed on the Kvarner Tourist Board's Instagram profile, and the entire series is also available on the board's other digital platforms.
