The Electronic Public Procurement Bulletin has revealed that Swietelsky will carry out the remaining works on the existing track of the Dugo Selo - Križevci railway line. The value of the concluded contract amounts to €34.7 million, excluding VAT.

In the tender launched by HŽ Infrastruktura at the end of March 2026, Swietelsky was the only interested bidder. The works are conceived as the final phase and encompass several separate segments of the line, totaling approximately 20 kilometers in length.

Scope of Works and Technical Objectives

The project includes a complete renewal of the track superstructure and substructure, which entails the installation of new rails and sleepers. Additionally, the plan includes the arrangement of the track bed, drainage systems, and access service roads. A special segment of the work is the rehabilitation of the railway-road crossing in the settlement of Prikraj.

A significant portion of the contract pertains to the modernization of the 25 kV contact line system, with a certain number of masts to be replaced. The ultimate goal of the entire endeavor is to make the existing track suitable for train operations at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour.

Execution Dynamics and Supervision

The contractor has been given a deadline of eight months to complete all works. Although the estimated value of the job was set at €25 million, Swietelsky's accepted bid amounts to €34.7 million. In parallel, HŽ Infrastruktura has also published a separate tender for professional supervision services at the construction site.

The amount foreseen for engaging the company that will carry out supervision is €200,000 excluding VAT. All interested parties can submit their applications for this job until August 24, 2026. The selected supervisor will monitor the progress of works for all eight months, as planned for their final completion.

A Project with a Long History

The reconstruction of the existing route and the construction of a second track on the Dugo Selo - Križevci section were initiated back in 2016. Initially, it was envisioned that everything would be completed by 2020, but the project's dynamics underwent multiple changes, and deadlines had to be extended several times. With this new contract, it is expected that the entire story will finally be concluded.
