This year, the project preserving Pag's gastronomic heritage covers the entire island, and a digital platform makes planning a gastro tour easier.
Fans of authentic island cuisine now have a digital guide to explore the flavors of Pag. The project 'Pag on the Menu', which has been bringing together restaurateurs dedicated to traditional dishes for years, has launched its own mobile app. It offers users an overview of certified establishments, their offerings, and locations across the island.
The network of certified restaurateurs has expanded significantly this year and now practically covers the whole island. From Metajna and Novalja in the north, through Kolan, Mandre, and Šimuni, all the way to the town of Pag, visitors can taste traditional dishes prepared according to original recipes. The project is led by the Bartul Kašić High School in Pag, with partners including the Pag Tourist Board, Novalja Tourist Board, Kolan Municipality Tourist Board, Povljana Municipality Tourist Board, and the Pag and Novalja Craftsmen's Associations.
The project was created with the aim of preserving the island's gastronomic heritage, known for Pag cheese, lamb, and salt, and connecting it with the tourist offer. Long-standing certificate holders have been joined by new restaurants that present traditional recipes in a modern way, with an emphasis on local ingredients.
The 'Pag on the Menu' mobile app was developed in collaboration between the Bartul Kašić High School in Pag and the Vice Vlatković Vocational School in Zadar, with support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Along with the project's website, the app makes it easy to plan your own gastronomic tour of the island. The website also features some original Pag recipes, so lovers of island cuisine can prepare traditional dishes at home. The app is free to download and is available on Google Play.
Certified restaurateurs now operate in almost all parts of Pag. In the town of Pag, the locations include: Konoba Bodulo, Konoba Bile, Restaurant Na Tale, Restaurant Na Katine, Wine and Cheese Bar Trapula, Restaurant Stara Solana, D10's Pizza Fantasista Pag, Porta Salina, Buffet Uhlinac, and Konoba Didova kuća in Šimuni.
In Kolan and Mandre, guests can enjoy Konoba Bonaca Mandre, Konoba Divlja Maslina Kolan, OPG Prtorić, and Konoba Giardin Kolan. Novalja and its surroundings are represented by Konoba Težak in Metajna, Restaurant Starac i more in Novalja, and Konoba Boškinac in Stara Novalja.
The project aims to encourage the use of local products and enhance gastronomic tourism, allowing visitors to experience the island through its characteristic flavors, no matter which part of the island they are in.
